Graymark was founded by Graham and Mark Vinsen in Auckland, New Zealand. For nearly three decades, the family has built, operated, and exited hazardous waste recovery businesses.

That operating history is the foundation. Every system we build, every process we design, and every deployment we run is informed by tens of thousands of hours working inside the waste streams we now recover.

In 2025, Graymark launched its first Regen unit — a containerised chemical recovery engine that does what no prior system in this market has done: process hazardous waste on-site and return recovered feedstock to industry. The technology is new. The knowledge behind it is not.

1995

Medi-Chem

Founded by Graham and Mark Vinsen, Medichem pioneered safe and compliant disposal systems for medical and laboratory waste across New Zealand. The company was acquired by Transpacific Industries (ASX:TPI) in 2006, setting the foundation for Graymark’s future chemical recovery operations.

1997

Graymark Technologies Ltd.

Founded in Auckland, November 1997, by Graham and Mark Vinsen. Originally built as the technology R&D arm for Medi-Chem and the initiatives that follow this timeline.

Kauri Gum Distillation

Developed and trialled a solvent-based distillation process to extract Kauri Gum from swamp material. Utilising butyl acetate and a Ciemme distillation unit, the trials proved technically viable and commercially pioneering in natural resin recovery.

Algae-to-SAF

Conducted early-stage research into the conversion of algae biomass into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). While economically unviable during low fuel-price cycles, the work validated pathways now central to emerging biofuel innovation.

EcoCover

Developed an environmentally friendly ground-cover system made from recycled paper fibre and waste adhesives. Designed to reduce landfill input and improve soil moisture retention, the initiative demonstrated early circular-economy potential within construction and horticulture sectors.

Pacific Steel Ash Recovery

Designed and implemented a capture and disposal system for ash from Pacific Steel’s exhaust filtration units. The new process increased daily ash recovery from 5 tonnes to 18 tonnes, significantly reducing particulate emissions and improving Auckland’s air quality.

Fluorescent Tube Recovery

Engineered a HEPA-vacuum pulveriser to process mercury-containing fluorescent tubes. Captured mercury vapours were recovered through the precious metals industry, and recycled glass re-entered manufacturing streams. The operation evolved into Interwaste, now recycling over one million tubes annually.

Solvent Recovery

Installed and operated New Zealand’s first automated Renzmann 3000 L/h distillation system for recovering reusable solvent from print and coatings industries. Enabled closed-loop reuse of industrial solvents, reducing virgin solvent demand and waste volumes.

2018

Hazwaste

Established as a modern hazardous waste management business, Hazwaste specialised in collection, treatment, and secure disposal of industrial chemicals. Exited to EnviroNZ (LON:CXI) in 2022 following rapid regional growth and integration success.

Graymark funds its own R&D and delivers finished, operational systems. We identify waste streams that have recoverable value, build the machines to extract it, and deploy them into industry.

Every platform is designed for containerised deployment, multi-stream processing, and rapid iteration. A new waste stream goes from characterisation to live processing in weeks. A new site goes from assessment to deployed unit in days.

We control the full stack — chemistry, hardware, controls, deployment, operations. No subcontractors on the core process. No dependency on third-party IP.

Graymark's R&D and central processing facility operates from Nelson, at the heart of New Zealand's forestry and primary industry corridor. Deployed units are shipped to customer and project sites across the country.

The waste streams we target — timber treatment chemicals, contaminated soil, industrial solvents, process residues, metal fractions — exist at scale in every country with primary industry. The platform architecture is designed to lift and shift internationally.
